The Milan Wildcats, still without starting small forward Dominic Dabney, recovering from shoulder and hand injuries suffered in the football season, look strong as ever early in the 2019-2020 season, with a dominating 81-41 victory on Wednesday night over Putnam County.
In the semifinal round of the Tri-Rivers Classic Tournament at Schuyler County High School, seniors Ryan Dabney and Hunter Shaw led a balanced Wildcat attack with 17 points each, with Dre Morehead connecting for 16 points, and Eddie Gonzalez 12.
Milan, now 3-0 on the season, moves into the TRC championship game on Saturday afternoon against Brookfield. Putnam County, in falling to a mark of 1-2, had 14 points from Kelton Bain.
That game was broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, preceded by the Milan Lady Wildcats attempts to knock off #1 seed Scotland County. Despite a strong start that saw Milan jump out to a 15-10 first quarter advantage, the Lady Tigers defense would slowly suffocate Milan’s offense, with SCHS winning 56-43.
Micah Couley had 15 points for 2-1 Scotland County, with Abby Curry and Hannah Feeney adding 13 points each. Cadence Pauley had 20 points and Jordan Gray 13 for Milan, also 2-1 after the setback.
