The Milan girls and boys survived quarterfinal tests on Monday night in the opening round of the Tri-Rivers Classic Tournament, moving both teams into the semifinals on Wednesday evening, to be heard on KTTN FM 92.3 and KTTNSports.com, with coverage hitting the air at 5:55.
The tournament, beginning together the eight schools that made up the now defunct Tri-Rivers Tournament, is using two gymnasiums at Schuyler County High School in Queen City, with the Lady ‘Cats of Milan, on Monday night, riding a 27 point performance by sophomore Cady Pauley to a 51-48 upset win over #4 seed Knox County. The next opponent for the Milan girls, #1 seed Scotland County, had little difficulty with North Shelby, winning 54-35. Milan vs. Scotland County in girls semifinal action can be heard on 92.3 FM at 6 PM on Wednesday evening from the Schuyler County High School gymnasium.
In other girls quarterfinal results, the Clark County Lady Indians rolled past Putnam County 55-21, while the Schuyler County Lady Rams knocked down #3 seeded Brookfield, 50-47.
The #1 seeded, sixth-ranked (MBCA Class 2) Milan boys cruised to a 79-41 win on Monday night over Schuyler County in the Rams middle school facility, placing four players in double figures in improving to 2-0. Putnam County, in a tighter game, held off North Shelby in a 61-49 final, moving the Midgets into a head-to-head semifinal with Milan at 7:30 on Wednesday night on KTTN FM 92.3.
The Clark County boys beat Scotland County 71-47, with the Brookfield boys swinging a 63-61 upset of #3 seed Knox County.
