Whitney’s unbeaten night, Lovell’s marquee win against Marceline’s Fisher, highlight Trenton improvement in wrestling quad

The Trenton Bulldogs were aiming for improvement on the wrestling mats on Thursday night, traveling to Marceline High School for a quadrangular hosted by the Tigers that included Trenton, Lathrop, and Plattsburg.  Coming off of subpar performances at the Marceline Tournament and at Gallatin High School earlier this month, there was marked improvement from the THS grapplers in a 2-1 night at the MHS gymnasium.

Trenton beat Plattsburg 51-24, and topped Lathrop 36-24.  Marceline’s 35-27 head-to-head win kept the Bulldogs from a clean sweep of the quadrangular.  At 220 pounds, Trenton senior Jadan Whitney had a superb night for the Bulldogs, with a 3-0 record, including a victory over Plattsburg’s Trevor Rush, who bowed out due to injury, and a pin of Marceline’s Dalton Stark at the 1:31 mark.  Whitney also pinned Lathrop’s Thomas Macomber, in 1 minute and 9 seconds.  At 113 pounds, Trenton’s Thomas Lovell picked up a huge win against Marceline’s Jaylea Bixenman, by 9-7 decision.

For the Trenton girls, both Teresa Burkholder and Ann Airey went 0-2 on the night.
