The victory is a key one for Vancouver, as the Whitecaps attempt to grab one of the final available spots in the playoffs, as the Whitecaps, at 10-9-10, are now one point out of a postseason berth. Five games remain in the regular season for 8th-place Vancouver.
Sporting, sitting at 15-7-7, good for 2nd place in the Western Conference, missed an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot. Johnny Russell scored in the 43rd minute for Kansas City, his sixth goal in as many game.
