Trenton High School freshman Kiefer Tolson, after shooting a round of 106 on Monday’s first round of the Class 2 state golf championships, showed dramatic improvement on Tuesday, improving his 18-hole score to 90. The combined total of 196 placed Tolson at 196, good for a four-way tie for 58th place with Adam DiMarco of St. Michael’s, Koen Littlejohn of Lamar, and Gavin Ogan of Clever.
California won the Class 2 state title with a score 671, 11 strokes better than runner-up Barstow. Trigg Lindahl of Hermann High School shot 148 to win the individual state crown.
The Gallatin Bulldogs finished in 9th place in the Class 1 state championships, with their final score of 769 one stroke behind eighth-place Thomas Jefferson Independent. Cole Camp won the Class 1 title with a score of 678, while the Marceline Tigers, at 681, were second.
Logan Bain of Westran won the Class 1 state title with a two-day score of 156, three strokes better than Joseph Devoy of Columbia Independent.
Marceline’s individual results included a fourth-place 162 from Will Heller, 8th place 165 for Jacob Stallo, 18th place 172 for Braden Lichtenberg, and 38th place 182 from Lance O’Dell.
Other area scores in the Class 1 event were 177 for Stanberry’s Landon Marticke, Jaden Wyant of Putnam County at 179, Gallatin’s Brody Bird 182, Milan’s Jerret Courtney 183, Gallatin’s Isaac Bird 180, North Harrison’s Wade Briggs 190, Milan’s Taylor Trenter 195, Gallatin’s Logan Bottcher and Payton Feiden at 199, Milan’s Michael Pipes 203, Gallatin’s Jordan Donovan 206, and Princeton’s Ashton Clapham at 222.
Tolton Catholic won the Class 3 state title at 587, with Logan Cox of Hallsville and Samuel Schoeberl of Bishop LeBlond sharing the crown with matching scores of 144. Chillicothe’s Jackson Trout shot 168 for 36th place and James Mathew of CHS shot 184 for 68th place in the state meet.
Webster Groves won the Class 4 state title with a score of 639, while Aiden Asby of Bolivar shot 144 to win the individual title.
Class 5 titles went to Kansas City Rockhurst, with a score of 595. Rockhust’s William King and Staley’s Bryson Oots shot matching 141 for Class 5 individual titles.
