The Trenton High School girls tennis doubles team of Astrid Soriano and Lydia Leininger have advanced to the Class 1 state tournament in Springfield. The duo won their sectional match on Saturday over Elizabeth Allen and Kayleigh Norris of Harrisonville 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
Trenton singles entries Mallory Sole and Alaina Overton each fell short in sectional tests against competition from Harrisonville, with Sole taking the opening set of her battle with Morgan Evans 6-1. In a tiebreak that went to overtime, Evans outlasted Sole 11-9 to earn the state berth.
Overton lost in straight sets to Abby Overbay of Harrisonville, 6-4, 6-1.
