The Trenton High School wrestling team had two wins and two losses in a dual tournament on Saturday at Lexington High School.
The nine schools were divided into three pools. After competing twice in their pool, each team then wrestled against schools with the same pool record. Trenton lost both duals in its poll, falling to Lafayette County (Higginsville) 54-24 and Marceline 49-24. Trenton Head Coach Charlie Bacon indicated the Bulldogs “wrestled those two schools better than earlier this season”.
Trenton, placed in the “third place crossover duals”, defeated Sherwood 41-18 and Tipton 51-18.
Mason Owen and Jadan Whitney both were unbeaten on the day for THS. Whitney picked up his 100th career win late in his junior season, an accomplishment recognized by Coach Bacon as something “great that many never reach”.
Bacon added that Lucas Clark, Eric Lovett, Canyon VonBurg, and Jarvis Collis all picked up some good wins for the team.
Trenton’s wrestlers now prepare for districts, to be held at Marceline High School this Friday, February 9th and Saturday, February 10th. In district competition, a top four finish will advance individual wrestlers to the Class 1 state tournament in Columbia next weekend.
