The Trenton Bulldogs have improved their record to 4-8, with a winning streak of three games in a row, marks achieved after a 7-4 triumph over Linn County on Tuesday night at Burleigh Grimes Field.
Sam Schilling got the start for Trenton, and limited the Mustangs to one hit (a two-run single by Cody Murrell in the second inning) over three innings, but scuffled with his control, hitting three Linn County batters, walking two, and committing a two-base error on a ground ball thrown down the right field line to lead off the game.
Jesse Farmer saved the win for Schilling, working four innings out of the Bulldogs bullpen, scattering three runs and one run, while striking out seven. Farmer slammed the door on the Mustangs in the 7th, inducing back-to-back infield pop-ups with the tying run at the plate.
Down 3-2 heading into the bottom half of the 2nd inning, Trenton responded with four runs to take a 6-3 lead. Hunter Dugan’s looping liner to right field drove in Avery Cooksey and Quincy Griffin with the go-ahead runs, with Colton Colston driving in Dugan (who stole back-to-back bases in the inning) with a run-scoring single.
Trenton, in the home 1st, took a 2-1 lead with Cooksey scoring on a passed ball to tie the game, while Colston drove in Dugan with a double two batters later.
Cooksey and Dugan each scored twice in the victory, while Chase Otto added two hits and a run scored from the #9 hole for THS. The Bulldogs, up 6-3 in the bottom of the 6th, got an important insurance run on a bases-loaded walk to Cole Schilling, sending home Otto. Trenton is next in action on Saturday morning at Mid-Buchanan High School, playing the Dragons in a doubleheader starting at 10 o’clock.
Tuesday night’s game was broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
