Just 24 hours after the program’s first district victory in six years, the volleyball season came to a close for the Trenton Lady Bulldogs, in a 25-15, 25-7 loss to district champion St. Paul Lutheran in the Class 2, District 15 semifinals.

In action played at Lexington High School, Trenton played tough against the #1 seed Saints in the opening round, but scuffled in the second set, as Lutheran built momentum throughout the match and cruised to the victory late.

St. Paul Lutheran advanced to the district championship match, winning that contest 26-24, 25-13.

The volleyball program at Trenton, despite the relative lack of success in its history, could be on the verge of a breakthrough in 2017 and 2018, with Coach Amanda King, in two rebuilding seasons after taking the job from Brett Ewald, playing mostly underclassmen.  While that has meant more losses than wins for THS, the girls, by the second-half of this season, began to show strong strides in their level of play, culminating in a two-set win over Carrollton in the first round of district play.
