The Trenton Lady Bulldogs traveled to St. Joseph on Monday afternoon, for a head-to-head tennis duel with the Lafayette Irish. As they had done in the previous five matchups this season, Trenton found the win column, taking the matchup against St. Joseph’s “north siders” 7-2. Trenton is now 6-0 on the season, in addition to Friday’s third place finish at the Benton Tournament.
On Monday, Trenton’s singles depth again proved to be the key factor in the team win, as Samantha Mihalovich (#3 singles) beat Gracie Hellerich and Codi DeLong (#5 singles) beat Madyson McMillian by identical 8-love scores. Taking 8-1 wins for the Lady Bulldogs were Madison Searcy (#4 singles) over Kenya Henderson and Emma Gilham (#6 singles) over Paige Edwards. Lauren Dolan, at #2 singles, won for THS, 8-3 over Lafayette’s Ashlyn Dotson.
Lafayette’s individual successes came from #1 singles player Danielle Schneller, who picked up an 8-1 victory over Trenton’s Claire Utley, then teamed with Dotson for an 8-4 Irish win in #1 doubles over Trenton’s duo of Utley and Dolan. Trenton won the other two doubles matches, with Mihalovich and Searcy victorious 8-love (over Hellerich and Henderson), while DeLong and Gilham won 8-1 (over McMillian and Edwards).
Only one JV match was played on Monday afternoon between THS and LHS. In a highly competitive matchup, Trenton’s Alainey Fair found the win column, 8-6, over Lafayette’s Alyssa Dowell.
Trenton is competing in the Cameron Tournament today (Wednesday). Action began at the Cameron Tennis Courts at 8 o’clock this morning.
