Tennis

The Trenton Lady Bulldog tennis team, just two days after a season-opening, rain-shortened win over Carrollton, traveled to Savannah High School to battle the Lady Savages on Thursday afternoon.

Trenton played more dominant tennis, claiming a 7-2 win over the MEC level competition.  Lauren Dolan, Samantha Mihalovich, and Madison Searcy all won their singles matches by scores of 8-1, with Codi DeLong victorious 8-3 and Emma Gilham winning 8-2.

Both of Savannah’s wins came from Jacey Cornelius, as the Savages #1 singles player beat Claire Utley 8-3, and teamed with Jacelyn Kallauner to beat Trenton’s team of Claire Utley and Lauren Dolan 8-2.

Trenton won the two other doubles matches, with Mihalovich and Searcy winning 8-5, while DeLong teamed with Gilham for an 8-5 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs showed off the depth of their 2016 program, with the JV players teaming for a 4-0 doubles record against Savannah.  Alainey Fair and Elle Neal won 6-1, Emily Bonta and Latorrie Johnson won 6-2, Leah Polk and Halley Windsor took a 6-3 win, while Grace Eaton and Tessa Schlatter won by a 6-4 final.

Coach Bobbie Hainey’s team has a very busy week approaching, with competitions every school day next week.  Trenton’s toughest test to date to come on Monday afternoon at Chillicothe, with a 4 o’clock start time.

Chillicothe, on Thursday night, was swept 9-0 by powerhouse program Marshall.
