The rousing success that has been the 2016 Trenton High School tennis season continued on Monday afternoon, although the Lady Bulldogs 7-2 victory over St. Joseph Benton did get a boost from the Lady Cardinals lack of numbers.
Benton only brought four players to the THS courts, giving Trenton three points on forfeit (#5 singles, #6 singles, #3 doubles) without having to swing a racket. However, in matches played, Trenton outscored Benton 4-2, for another convincing dual victory.
At #2 singles, Trenton’s Lauren Dolan continued her spectacular season, beating Haleigh Peters 8-5. Samantha Mihalovich and Madi Searcy rolled for THS, with Mihalovich (#3 singles) downing Lakiah Johnson 8-1, and Searcy (#4 singles) defeating Shyann Reynolds 8-2.
The doubles team of Mihalovich and Searcy took an 8-2 win over Peters and Johnson to complete Trenton’s scoring for the day.
Benton’s #1 singles player Stephanie Brown had a successful day, beating Trenton’s Claire Utley 8-5 and teaming with Reynolds for an 8-6 win over Trenton’s #1 doubles team of Utley and Dolan.
Trenton’s opponent for Senior Day tennis will be Lexington. The net action between the Lady Bulldogs and the Minutewomen will start at 4 o’clock this (Tuesday) afternoon.
