The Trenton Lady Bulldogs split with Chillicothe in six singles matches on Monday afternoon, but swept doubles play to claim a 6-3 win, improving to 3-0 in duals this season.
In singles play, Trenton’s #2 player Lauren Dolan downed Hannah Cypert 8-4. At #4 singles, Maddie Searcy defeated Macy Cavanah 8-2, while Emma Gilham, playing #5 singles for THS, took a 8-2 victory over Lauren Gregory.
For the visitors from Chillicothe, #1 singles player Gracy Reeter was an 8-4 winner over Claire Utley. The singles ‘match of the night’ saw Hunter Keithley and Samantha Mihalovich go overtime, with the Hornets’ Keithley winning a 7-4 tiebreaker after the duo tied 8-8. At #6 singles, Hannah Zimmerman of the Hornets took an 8-2 decision over Latorrie Johnson of the Bulldogs.
With the match tied at 3, doubles would decide the team title. In a dramatic match at #3 doubles, Trenton’s Gilham and Johnson went into a tiebreak against Gregory and Zimmerman, winning 7-5. Utley and Dolan combined for an 8-6 win over the team of Reeter and Cavanah, while Mihalovich and Searcy beat Cypert and Keithley 8-3.
The schools played six JV doubles matches in the Monday afternoon competition, with Chillicothe winning 4 of the 6. Kayla Distler and Kayla McElwee downed Emily Bonta and Gwyneth Foster 6-3, Delaney May and Allison Ishmael beat Kennedy Wanstreet and Leah Polk 6-4, the Hornet duo of Avory Bloss and Megan Sisson took a 6-love sweep over Wanstreet and Bailea Jeannoutot, while Jocelyn Brady and Ali Kromeich beat the Trenton tandem of Amanda Parrack and Elle Neal 7-5.
Trenton JV doubles winners were Elle Neal and Kendall Crowley, 6-4 over Brynlee Faulkner and Olivia Lamp; and Crowley and Bonta in a 6-1 decision over Ella Pohren and McElwee.
The Lady Bulldogs busy week continues on Tuesday afternoon, with THS hosting Bishop LeBlond at 4 o’clock. Chillicothe travels to St. Joseph for an MEC dual with the Lafayette Fighting Irish on Tuesday.
