The Trenton Lady Bulldogs scored five runs to jump-start their road effort on Tuesday night, rolling to a 14-2, six-inning win over Brookfield, in a varsity softball game from Rusk Park broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
Trenton’s early onslaught was bolstered by shaky defense by Brookfield, as three errors in the first inning put starting pitcher Faith Smith in a bind. A Maci Moore double scored Ainsley Tolson to open the scoring. Mykah Hurley, who had reached on a bunt single, scored on a ground-ball by Salem Croy, misplayed for an error. Moore scored on a single by Taylor Richman, courtesy runner Gracyn Rongey scored on a throwing error by the Brookfield first baseman, and Richman scored on a double by Lexi Whitaker, with the THS junior thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple.
The visitors added to the 5-0 lead in the 2nd inning, with Hurley and Moore leading off the inning with singles, and moving to second and third on a wild pitch. A Croy ground-ball scored Hurley, with a Sidney Lynch single scoring Moore.
In the third inning, McKayla Blackburn, as part of a 4-for-4 night, doubled to lead off the inning, moved to third on an outfield throwing error, and scored on a grounder to third by Chandler Lynch.
Trenton moved the lead to 10-0 in the 4th, as Croy singled and moved to third base on a Richman double, with back-to-back grounders to Brookfield second baseman Cassi Conard scoring both runners from third base.
Tolson pitched the first four innings for Trenton, shutting out Brookfield on four hits, striking out four batters. Blackburn pitched the fifth inning, with BHS, on a two-out, two-run single by Fallon Gladbach, temporarily avoiding the run rule, cutting the lead to 10-2.
