The Trenton Bulldogs grabbed shutout wins over Bishop LeBlond, St. Joseph Lafayette, and Chillicothe to claim third place at Friday’s Benton Tennis Tournament in St. Joseph.
THS opened the day with a 4-0 win over LeBlond, as Victor Markell won 6-4 over Baer and Isaac Dixon downed Stevenson 6-3. In doubles, Trent Villacampa teamed with Bradyn Sager for a 6-0 win over Helsel and Staggs, with Maverick Sole and Tucker Otto shutting out Rocha and Ellsworth 6-0.
In the second round, Savannah got the better of Trenton by a score of 3-1, pushing the Savages into the semifinal round. Trenton’s only victory of the duel came from Dixon, a 6-2 triumph over Higer. In the other singles match, Kurre beat Markell 6-2. In doubles, Trenton struggled, with Horton and Herbert doubling up Villacampa and Sager 6-3, while Heftye and Gould defeated Sole and Otto 6-2.
The Bulldogs advanced to the third place match with a rout of Lafayette, winning 4-0. Markell beat Cline 6-0, Dixon beat Bayer 6-0, Villacampa and Sager beat Nguyen and Spinner 6-1, while Sole and Otto downed Kretzer and Estes 6-1.
Against Chillicothe, Trenton won 5 matches to zero, with Sole beating Peterson 5-0, Dixon over Savage 6-0, Villacampa and Sager downed Adams and Savage 6-2, Sole and Otto beat Collins and Reeter 6-1, with Markell and Dixon downing Peterson and Snider 6-1.
