Trenton opens tennis season with road sweep of Carrollton

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs battled some early nerves, but powered through, and with a hard-fought win at #1 doubles, completed a 9-0 sweep of the Carrollton Lady Trojans to open the season on Tuesday afternoon.

Of six singles victories for Trenton, four came by dominating 8-0 finals, with Astrid Soriano downing Emily Sprouse (#1), Mallory Sole taking down Naedy Jenkins (#2), Lydia Leininger shutting out Lillian Hall (#4), and Harley Hall rolling past Kaitlyn Burns (#5).  In the #3 singles duel, Alaina Overton of Trenton took an 8-3 win over Savannah Reinke of Carrollton, with Jessika Kennedy of THS defeated Joselyn Baker of CHS at #6 singles, 8-2.

The most competitive match of the night, at #1 doubles, went to a tiebreaker with the teams of Astrid Soriano and Mallory Sole of Trenton locked up with Emily Sprouse and Naedy Jenkins of Carrollton 8-8.  The tiebreak was controlled by the Bulldogs duo, winning by a 7-1 margin.  At #2 doubles, Overton and Leininger won 8-2 (over Reinke and Hall), with Hall and Kennedy of Trenton rolling to an 8-1 win over Baker and Sawyer Carpenter of Carrollton at #3 doubles, 8-1.

Trenton opens the home portion of the schedule on Thursday afternoon, hosting Savannah at 4 o’clock at the Carpenter-Bosley Courts at Trenton High School.
