Trenton High School’s Mallory Sole won a singles championship, with the team of Alaina Overton and Lydia Leininger taking the doubles title, at Wednesday’s Carrollton Tennis Tournament. Astrid Soriano of THS lost the singles final to her teammate Sole, finishing in the second position, with the doubles team of Harley Hall and Jessika Kennedy finishing 2-2 on the day, good for a 4th place doubles finish.
In singles, Sole dominated her quarterfinal match with Jenkins of Carrollton, winning 8-0. Her semifinal test would be the toughest of the day, with Sole holding off Hobson of Odessa 8-6. The all-Trenton final went to Sole over Soriano 8-0.
Before falling to Sole in the final, Soriano rolled to an 8-0 quarterfinal win over Bell of Lexington, followed by an 8-1 win over Carter of Odessa.
In their doubles championship, Trenton’s Overton and Leininger beat Darleth and McDowell of Lexington 8-0, Davis and Sanders of Odessa 8-2, and in the final, an 8-6 win over Tribble and Hadlock of Odessa.
In their 4th place doubles finish, Trenton’s Hall and Kennedy started their day with an 8-5 win over Thorp and Martin of Lexington, an 8-5 loss to the eventual runner-up Tribble and Hadlock, with a 6-3 win over Hall and Burns of Carrollton. In the third place match, Hall and Kennedy were doubled up by Davis and Sanders of Odessa 6-3.
