Trenton was among twelve schools at Thursday afternoon’s Lathrop Junior High Invitational. Each events on the day was split into 7th and 8th grade divisions. Other schools with Trenton at the event were Lawson, Hamilton, Lathrop, East Buchanan, North Platte, West Platte, Polo, Wellington-Napoleon, Plattsburg, Lexington, and Braymer.
The Trenton 8th grade boys finished 3rd as the team, while the 7th grade boys were second. For the 7th grade, Quincy Griffin was first in the triple jump (30′ 5 1/2″) while Joey Lynch was first in the pole vault (6′ 0″). David Felix was second in the 100 meter dash, at 13.49 seconds.
For the 8th grade boys, Noah Burkeybile’s effort of 7 feet gave him first place in the pole vault. Carson Burchett was first in the shot put (43′ 3 1/2″) while Dalton Burchett was second in the shot put, at 39 feet, 1 1/2 inches.
The Trenton 8th grade girls won first place honors as a team with 93.75 points. Lawson was second at 83.5, with Wellington-Napoleon third (72). Trenton’s Lexi Whitaker claimed first place in the high jump (4′ 6″), while Gwyneth Foster was second in the long jump, Ann Airey third in the 200 meter dash, and Allena Allen third in the 800 meter run.
The 7th grade girls featured a first place finish for Maci Moore in the shot put, with a throw of 33 feet, 3 inches.
Trenton’s relays were very strong, taking three victories. Kennedy Norton, Lexi Gott, Maci Moore, and Lexi Whitaker ran 57.84 seconds in the 4 by 100 race. McKayla Blackburn, Lexi Gott, Kennedy Norton, and Lexi Whitaker went 2:03.42 to win the 4 by 200. Shawna Coplen, McKayla Blackburn, Kennedy Norton, and Lexi Whitaker won the 4 by 400 race, in a time of 4;35.16.
Trenton Middle School track and field will be at St. Joseph Christian on Monday afternoon, for a meet starting at 4 o’clock.
