The TMS Bulldog football team took a three touchdown lead early in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game against the Maysville Wolverines, but had to sweat out some anxious moments late in holding on for a 24-18 victory.
The win improves the middle school team to 3-2 on the season, going into their final game against Gallatin on Monday, October 18th.
The game with Maysville was scoreless until Cooper Houser scored on a one yard plunge in the second quarter, giving the Bulldogs a 6-0 halftime advantage. The offenses for both sides showed improvement, but the first two scores after the half scored in unique fashion, as a fumbled snap on a punt attempt by TMS was recovered by the Wolverines in the end zone, tying the game at 6. The game stayed tied very briefly, as Trenton’s Michael Baker returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Nathan Twitchell added a 51 yard scoring run later in the 3rd quarter, with a Cooper Houser two yard run early in the fourth quarter pushing Trenton’s lead to 24-6.
Maysville’s late game surge saw an 80 yard touchdown pass and a 5 yard touchdown run. Despite combining for seven touchdowns in the game, both teams struggled in two-point conversions, going a combined 0 for 7.
