The Trenton Lady Bulldogs dominated the second half of Wednesday night’s Class 3 state sectional at Excelsior Springs High School, holding the District 15 champion Lawson Lady Cardinals to just eight points after the break in a 54-26 Trenton win.
The victory sends THS, now 26-3 on the season, to the state quarterfinals, and a 2:45 match on Saturday afternoon with the Southeast (Kansas City) Knights, who upset #3 ranked Boonville in Wednesday’s sectionals, 41-36.
In the contest from Excelsior Springs, Ainsley Tolson had 14 points to lead the GRC champions, with Whitley Richman adding 13, and Sydney Lynch 10. Taylor Dolt led Lawson High School with 15 points.
Wednesday’s game was broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7 and UClickTV.com. Saturday’s game from Lee’s Summit High School between the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Knights will be broadcast on the same two outlets, with Tom Johnson providing play-by-play. Pregame hits the air at 2:30, with tip at 2:45.
The Maryville Spoofhounds, in Wednesday night’s boys sectional from Excelsior Springs, held off a furious second-half rally by Lawson to beat the Cardinals, 65-63. The ‘Hounds will play Hogan Prep in the state quarterfinals at Lee’s Summit on Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock.
