Five touchdowns are scored, all without converting point after attempts, in a Monday afternoon junior varsity football contest from Gower between the Trenton Bulldogs and East Buchanan Bulldogs. East Buchanan emerged with the 18-12 victory.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs achieved strong nights on both sides of the football. Braydon Hughs had a third-quarter touchdown run of 15 yards and a fourth-quarter scoring scamper of 55 yards for Trenton, while leading the THS defense with seven tackles.
Trenton’s undoing came from the traditionally strong East Buchanan passing attack, as the home team connected for three throwing scores of 5 yards, 15, yards, and 62 yards.
Hughs led the Trenton running attack with 92 yards, with Caleb Tyler adding 36. For the Bulldogs defense, Gabe Stark had five tackles (including four for loss), with Jarek Habelitz contributing three tackles, two of those for loss.
Trenton’s pass defense, while giving up three passing scores, did grab three interceptions on the night, with Gaven Kelsall, Rudy Esparza, and Hunter McAtee creating those turnovers.
Trenton head coach Jon Guthrie noted that, down by six points late, Trenton had the football, attempting to tie, and with a successful PAT, potentially win, the game. However, late penalties short-circuited those efforts, leaving the Gower side with the “W”.
