The Trenton High School junior varsity softball team, behind a five-inning no-hitter by sophomore McKayla Blackburn, downed the visiting Maysville Lady Wolverines 5-1 on Tuesday night at Mark Griffin Memorial Field. Maysville scraped across its run by the benefit of two THS fielding errors and a base on balls. Blackburn struck out three in her masterpiece.
Coach Kameron Cool praised Blackburn’s work, saying, “McKayla had great rhythm tonight. She had all of her pitches going, hit spots, and created nothing but soft contact.”
Much of the Trenton offensive attack involved getting runners on base, then swiping bases, with the Lady Bulldogs stealing seven bases total. Kennedy Norton had three steals and scored twice, while Sara Spencer added two steals and two hits.
Mackenzie McAtee was 1 for 3, with Sidney Lynch adding a triple, and Sarah Jordan a single.
Trenton will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Princeton to take on the Lady Tigers. Varsity first pitch is at 5:30 with JV to follow.
