The Trenton High School Bulldogs took a pair of Tuesday afternoon wins at Lawson High School, beating the Carrollton Trojans in the quarterfinals of the Lawson Invitational Tournament.
The Trenton girls rolled to a 63-33 victory in the opener, riding 13 points from Ainsley Tolson and 12 from Whitley Richman in earning their 10th win of the season. The Trenton boys picked up 24 points from Spencer Harris, 18 from Connor Cotton, and 16 points from Corbyn Guile in a 72-54 win over the Trojans, the second for the Bulldogs in head-to-head competition.
With the triumphs, Trenton’s squads move into the semifinals on Thursday night, with the Lady Bulldogs playing the host Lawson Lady Cards at 7:30. Lawson, on Tuesday night, slipped by Richmond, 50-38, as Malorie Rash had 14 points, Addy Cress 12, and Taylor Dolt 10 for LHS.
The Trenton boys, for the second straight year, match with the Penney Hornets at the Lawson Tournament, with tip set for 6 o’clock on Thursday night. Penney, in Monday night’s quarterfinals, ripped North Platte, 63-34.
The Hamilton girls will play West Platte on Thursday at 4:30 in the first semifinal game of the session, with the Lady Hornets looking for their second-consecutive upset win after beating rival Gallatin in overtime on Monday afternoon.
The Lawson boys play Richmond in a 9 o’clock semifinal on Thursday night. Richmond beat 5th-seeded Gallatin on the late game on Tuesday night at Lawson, 61-55.
In Wednesday night’s consolation semifinals at Lawson, the Gallatin Lady Bulldogs opened the evening with a 56-27 win over North Platte. Taylor Sloan led a balanced Lady Bulldog attack with 10 points. Gallatin, in the consolation final set for 5 PM on Friday, will take on Richmond, after the Lady Spartans handled Carrollton on Wednesday night, 62-41.
The Carrollton boys earned a consolation round win over North Platte on Wednesday night, 63-42, as Bobby Jett had 15 points, Brett Pierson 13, and Justin Thoeni 10 for the Trojans. Carrollton will meet Gallatin in the boy’s consolation final at Lawson High School, on Friday night at 6:30. Gallatin beat West Platte in Wednesday night’s late consolation semifinal at LHS, 59-51.
