The Trenton Middle School Lady Bulldogs amassed 135 points to win the Grand River Conference’s eastern division track meet on Thursday afternoon at C.F. Russell Stadium. In a close duel, the Milan Wildcat boys rode a dominating running performance by 8th grader Dominic Dabney to overtake the host Trenton Bulldogs, winning the divisional crown by six points (96-90) over the host Bulldogs. South Harrison, with 82 points, was a close third. The Maysville girls had a strong day, with 82 points in a runner-up finish, followed by the Gallatin Lady Bulldogs, in third place with 57 points.
Taking the high jump championships on Thursday afternoon were Maysville’s Madeline Smith (4’4″) and South Harrison’s Braydon Sunderman (5’2″). The pole vault was claimed by Putnam County’s Claire Tipton (6’6″) and Maysville’s Connor Flinn (9′). In the long jump, the Trenton girls finished 1-2, with Emma Curtis leaping 14’11” for the win, followed by Gwyneth Foster at 13’9″. Sunderman took another title for the South Harrison boys, with a leap of 17’2.5″. The Trenton Lady Bulldogs won the triple jump, with Maci Moore at 27’3″. Moore’s teammate, Gracyn Rongey, was second at 27’1″. The Trenton boys grabbed a win from Quincy Griffin in the triple jump, at 33’4.25″. Princeton’s Zeb Schwartzopf (31’7″) was second.
In the discus toss, Milan seventh-grader Cady Pauley had a best effort of 99’10” in the win, joined by Putnam County 7th grader Colder Evans (135’8.5″) to win the boys discus throw. Trenton’s Maci Moore won the girls shot put at 37’5″, with South Harrison’s Colby Yslas at 50’5″ to win the boys event.
Trenton 8th graders swept the 100 meter hurdles races, with Janessa Van Hoozer (19.38 seconds) and Camdyn Leeper (16.65 seconds) taking the titles. The 100 meter dash winners were from Trenton and Milan, with Foster taking the girls title for the Lady Bulldogs at 13.99 seconds, and Dominic Dabney taking the first of numerous titles for Milan at 12.08 seconds. Dabney won the 400 meter dash for the Wildcats team win, with a blistering time of 54.38 seconds, 2.6 seconds better than 2nd place Thomas Kepler of Polo. Princeton’s Lauren Krohn won the girls 400 meter dash, with a time of 1:05.49 nearly 2 seconds better than runner-up Foster from TMS.
The Trenton girls (Lexi Gotta, Emilee Lovell, Evy McCullough, Emma Curtis) won the 4 by 200 relay (2:00.55), with the South Harrison boys (Justice Cook, Cale Weller, Braydon Sunderman, Colby Yslas) running 1:49.41 to beat runner-up Trenton by nearly 3 1/2 seconds. The Trenton girls added 10 points to their total in the 4 by 100 relay, with Curtis, McCullough, Moore, and Gott running 56 seconds flat. The South Harrison boys (Cook, Braden Spurling, Sunderman, Yslas) ran 51.44 seconds to win the 4 by 100, 0.4 seconds better than runner-up Polo.
Gallatin and Polo took the 1600 meter titles, won by Claire Hemry of GMS in 6:18.69 and Gavin Fitzwater of PMS in 4:54.88, running the only sub-5 minute time in his race. Hemry ran for another victory for the Gallatin girls in the 800 meter run, with a time of 2:40.53. Polo’s Fitzwater won the boys 800, in 2:17.97, just over 2 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Trenton, Chase Otto.
The 200 meter dash winners were South Harrison’s Autumn Kirk (30.04 seconds) and, in a third triumph, Dom Dabney of Milan, in 25.65 seconds. The domination of the girls relay races by Trenton continued with the 4 by 400, with Gott, Curtis, McCullough, and Foster running 4:38.63, over 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Princeton (Casey Barnes, Allison Allen, Shay Westerhoff, Lauren Krohn). The Trenton boys grabbed a win in the 4 by 400, with Austin Bouzek, Gavin Roeder, Chase Otto, and Camdyn Leeper running 4:08.65, 7.2 seconds ahead of runner-up Milan (Christan Callejo, Marcus Glidewell, Eddie Negron, Axel Pagan).
