The Trenton Lady Bulldog track and field team racked up 107 1/2 points, showing strength with their relay teams and sprints, in finishing in the runner-up position in Thursday’s Joe Shy Relays at Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium in Chilicothe.
Led by their outstanding freshman, Serena Sundell, Maryville claimed the girls team title with 119 1/2 points, with Chillicothe in third place at 96, Penney fourth at 92, and Plattsburg, with 65 points, finishing 5th.
In sprint highlights for Trenton, Kristi Ewing won the 100 meter dash, while Lexi Whitaker took the title in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes. In relays, the Lady Bulldogs were 2nd (behind Boonville) in the 4 by 100, but won the 4 by 200, 4 by 400, and 4 by 800 events. Trenton’s 4 by 200 team was made up of Ewing, Mykah Hurley, Whitaker, and Gwyneth Foster. The 4 by 400 winning squad consisted of Ewing, McKayla Blackburn, Foster, and Whitaker (Chillicothe was third), while the 4 by 800 champions had Hannah Mehrhoff, Foster, Karli Provorse, and Blackburn. Jordan Hibner of Chillicothe, in the 200 meter dash won by Trenton’s Whitaker, was third place. In the 200 meter dash won by Whitaker, Trenton junior Mykah Hurley was fourth.

3200 Meters : Zoe Foreman (Cameron) – 1st
The Chillicothe boys, behind a dominant individual performance by Brett Shaffer, edged the rival Maryville Spoofhounds for the team title at the “Joe Shy”, amassing 165 1/2 points to the ‘Hounds 156. Richmond was third (98), Trenton fourth (59), and Boonville and Cameron tied for fifth place with 47 points.
