The Trenton Lady Bulldog volleyball team struggled in a straight-set loss on Tuesday night to Savannah, falling to the host Lady Savages 25-8, 25-10, 25-19.  Evy McCullough had a strong net game for Trenton with five blocks, with Kenzie Yuille adding four digs, Olivia Roberts three kills, Jessa Shipley three digs, Ava Simpson seven assists, Lilly Berti one dig and one kill, with Makenzee Epperson adding two kills.

Head coach Pam Bowden said of the effort, “The stumbling block of getting off to a good start continues to be a hindrance.  These girls can play when they believe in their good ability!”

The JV match went to Savannah 25-10, 25-9, while the C team match went to the Savages 25-10, 25-4.

On Monday night, the Trenton varsity lost to St. Joseph Christian 25-8, 25-15, 25-12, with McCullough putting down five kills with three blocks, three assists, and two digs.  Kenzie Yuille and Jessa Shipley each had four digs, with Ava Simpson nine assists, and Lilly Berti three kills and two digs.

Despite the setback to Savannah, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs are as excited about their chances for a potential district championship for as any point in the program’s 25 year history, with THS in a five-team district tournament hosted by Carrollton High School.

While District 16 is by no means the toughest grouping in Class 2, the tournament does give an opportunity for programs like Trenton to see postseason success.  Of note, heading into the semifinal round on Tuesday, October 27th, is the fact that #2 seed Trenton has beaten the three teams joining them in the semifinal round at some point earlier this season.

That level of excitement was shared by senior hitter Olivia Roberts last Thursday night during Dawg Bites from the Trenton Hy-Vee:

Trenton, in a semifinal to be played at the elementary school gymnasium in Carrollton on October 27th, will take on South Harrison at 6 o’clock, with coverage on KTTN FM 92.3.  A Monday night four-set win by Brookfield over Penney has advanced the Lady ‘Dogs into a semifinal with #1 seed and host Carrollton at the high school gym, also at 6 o’clock.

The semifinal winners will move into the District 16 championship match on Thursday, October 29th at 6 o’clock, back in Carrollton.  The District 16 champion will move to the sectional round on Saturday, at a location to be determined (either West Platte, Bishop LeBlond, East Buchanan, or Mid-Buchanan).  Two sectional round matches and a state quarterfinal will be played on Saturday, as the winners of Districts 13, 14, 15, and 16 play a single elimination semifinal and final to determine which school advances to the Class 2 Final Four.
