The Trenton Lady Bulldogs attempted to open the 2020 tennis season on Tuesday afternoon, and had completed a convincing 3-0 sweep in doubles, before singles competition was postponed by a late afternoon rainstorm hitting the Trenton High School complex.
With Trenton up 3-0 after doubles, it has been announced that Carrollton will return to THS to complete the match from its stopping point on Tuesday, September 15th at 4 o’clock.
In doubles, Trenton’s #1 squad of Lexi Gotta and Morgan Dolan made short work of the Lady Trojans duo of Emily Goetting and Sabrina Corzette, winning 8-1. In the #2 match, the Lady Bulldog entry of Mallory Sole and Alaina Overton downed Savannah Reinke and Naedy Jenkins of Carrollton, 8-1, with the #3 doubles match going 8-1 in favor of Trenton, with Emilee Lovell and Harley Hall defeating Taylor Gunn and Emily Sprouse.
Singles matches remaining to be played on September 15th will be:
#1 : Lexi Gott (THS) vs. Emily Goetting (CHS)
#2 : Morgan Dolan (THS) vs. Sabrina Corzette (CHS)
#3 : Mallory Sole (THS) vs. Savannah Reinke (CHS)
#4 : Alaina Overton (THS) vs. Naedy Jenkins (CHS)
#5 : Emilee Lovell (THS) vs. Taylor Gunn (CHS)

With Carrollton bringing seven players to Trenton for Tuesday’s action, just one junior varsity match was contested, as Trenton’s Lydia Leininger won a singles dual with Kaitlyn Burns of the Lady Trojans, 8-1.
Tuesday’s rainstorm hit approximately 15 minutes before first pitch of Trenton’s varsity/JV GRC opening doubleheader with Putnam County, with the heavy downpour quickly making an uncovered Griffin Field unplayable. Those games will be made up on Saturday morning, with the varsity contest at 10 o’clock to be heard on KTTN FM 92.3, as Tom Johnson brings you the play-by-play.
