The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, playing their 7th game in the past six nights, hosted the Brookfield Lady ‘Dogs on Tuesday night, with Ainsley Tolson’s superb pitching leading THS to a 7-1 lead at Griffin Field, broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.
Tolson fired 5 2/3 innings of perfect softball at Brookfield, with Trenton breaking open the game in the bottom of the 1st inning, as sophomore Lexi Whitaker lashed a bases-clearing triple for three RBI’s to give the Lady Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.
Junior shortstop Mykah Hurley showed timely hitting success, with two out RBI singles in the 2nd and 4th innings driving in McKayla Blackburn and Ashten Whitaker, pushing the lead to 5-0.
Tolson led off the Trenton sixth inning with a double and scored on a Hurley sacrifice fly, Mykah’s third RBI of the night. Courtesy runner Sara Spencer scored via a Brookfield error, putting Trenton up 7-0.
A base on balls cost Tolson a chance at a perfect game with two outs in the top of the 6th inning. A bunt single to lead off the 7th ended Tolson’s no-hit bid. Two more singles by Brookfield in the 7th ended the shutout.
Despite the win, Coach John Cowling admitted to noticeable fatigue shown by the Trenton girls, in improving to 21-1 on the season. The win is Tolson’s 17th. The next game for THS is the last game of the regular season, with the Lady Bulldogs hosting the Chillicothe Lady Hornets on Monday, October 2nd at 5 o’clock, with coverage on Hot Country Z 101.7. The game will be “Senior Night” for Trenton, with the Lady Bulldogs honoring seniors Ashten Whitaker and Jayden Roeder. The loss drops Brookfield’s season record to 4-17.
