The second-seeded Trenton Lady Bulldogs beat Brookfield on Monday night in Higginsville by a final of 25-15, 25-13, sending THS to the semifinal round of Class 2, District 15.
In a balanced team effort, Karli Provorse led the THS offense with five kills, two blocks, and two assists. Teresa Yoder had three digs and two aces, while Shawna Coplen had seven assists, Saedee Jackson eight digs, Evy McCullough four kills, and Allena Allen three kills, as Trenton improves to 12-15-1 on the season. Brookfield, a program still in its infancy as it continues its building process, finishes the season at 1-24.
The win sends Trenton to the semifinal round against #3 seed Lafayette County, with the 6 o’clock match on Wednesday night to be played on the Huskers home court in Higginsville. The match will be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, with pre-match coverage beginning at approximately 5:50.
In other first-round action on Monday night from Higginsville, #4 seed St. Paul Lutheran beat Carrollton 25-21, 25-18, while #3 seed Higginsville swept the Penney Lady Hornets 25-16, 25-18.
In semifinal #1 on Wednesday night, the top-seeded MRVC champion Lexington Minutewomen take on St. Paul Lutheran at 5 o’clock, followed by the Trenton-Higginsville match at 6. The two semifinal winners will advance to the championship match, set for a 7 o’clock start on Wednesday night. If Trenton advances past Higginsville, KTTN FM 92.3 will also have live coverage of the District 15 title match from Higginsville.
The District 15 champion advances to the Class 2 state playoffs on Saturday, where the champions of District 13, 14, 15, and 16 travel to the home court of the District 16 winner. The District 15 winner plays the District 13 winner in the sectional round, with 14 playing 16. The two winners advance to the state quarterfinals, also to be played on Saturday.
