The Trenton girls and boys and Gallatin girls and boys basketball teams took victories on the second night of play in the 2017 Gallatin Invitational Basketball Tournament on Tuesday night.
Trenton and Gallatin moved into the semifinal rounds, to be played on Thursday night at GHS. The #2 ranked (MBCA Class 3) Trenton Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 67-11 victory over an over-matched Winston squad, as Mykah Hurley led 2-0 Trenton with 15 points, with Ashten Whitaker adding 13, Maci Moore 12, and Ainsley Tolson 11 points. Trenton will play Braymer in the first girls semifinal of Thursday’s session, with tip-time scheduled for 4:30.
The Gallatin Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 64-31 victory over Gilman City, staying unbeaten on the season. Kelsey Maxwell and Cora Stout both had 12 points for GHS, while Megan Cottrell had 15 points for the Ladyhawks. Gallatin will play Hardin-Central in the GIT semifinals on Thursday night at 7 o’clock.
In the boys quarterfinals, Trenton grabbed its first win of the 2017-2018 season, with a 69-44 triumph over Gilman City. Lathan Croy led a balanced Bulldog attack with 19 points, with Dylan Harris 16, and Kade Ockenfels 12 points. For the Hawks, Cornelius Peery and Kaleb Bjornlie both had 14 points, while Mitchell Sievering added 10. Trenton will play Gallatin in the boys semifinals on Thursday night at 8:15, after Gallatin disposed of the Maysville Wolverines on Tuesday night, 62-45. Aidan Adkison led the Bulldogs with 19 points, Jett Simmons had 15, Riley Holmes 12, and Collin Beck 11 for GHS. Austin Shirk led Maysville with 25.
The consolation semifinals will be played tonight (Wednesday night) in Gallatin, as the Gilman City Ladyhawks play Polo at 4:30, followed by the Polo boys challenging Hardin-Central at 5:45. At 7 o’clock, the Winston girls play Maysville, with the Gilman City boys going against Maysville at 8:15.
