The Bishop LeBlond Golden Eagles and Maryville Spoofhounds finished in the top two spots at Class 2, District 8 boys golf competition on Monday afternoon at Lawson, advancing their squads to next week’s Class 2, Section 4 meet. While not finishing in the top two as a team, the Trenton Bulldogs had a strong day, and by virtue of having four players qualify for sectionals, the Bulldogs will also be able to compete at the team level next week.
LeBlond’s winning score of 303 was followed by Maryville’s 312, Trenton’s 331, Lawson’s 340, and Brookfield at 379. Other schools in the field were Richmond, Lathrop, Plattsburg, Lexington, and Carrollton.
Maryville’s Hunter Hayes took medalist honors with a round of 70. LeBlond took the 2nd and 3rd spots, with Hank Lierz shooting 73 and Grant Boudreau 74. Trenton sophomore Lathan Croy finished in a three-way tie for 4th place, joining LeBlond’s Sam Schanze and Lawson’s Tanner Smith at 77. Trenton’s Nate Swann shot 78, good for a 7th place tie with Vilas Oglesby of Maryville.
Brookfield’s top score, an 80, was turned in by Seth Gladbach, placing him 10th. Trenton’s Cree Mullenix shot 85 for a 17th place finish, while Corbyn Guile made it into the sectional qualifiers, shooting a 91. Just missing out on qualifying, finishing in a 26th place tie, was THS senior Tucker Franklin, who shot a round of 94.
In Class 3, District 8 golf competition, Chillicothe and Cameron were among the teams playing at Platte City on Monday. The Dragons shot 353 for fifth place, with the Hornets score of 362 good for a 7th place finish. Pembroke Hill shot 307 to win the tournament, with Smithville second at 329.
Medalist honors went to Pembroke Hill’s Nicholas Klock, with a round of 72. Advancing to next week’s Class 3, Section 4 tournament, finishing in the top 25, were Cameron’s Sam Morrison (8th place – 80), Chillicothe’s Hayden Montgomery (16th place – 85), Cameron’s Chase Foreman (17th place – 86), Chillicothe’s Cade Snyder (22nd place – 89), Chillicothe’s Trevor Bowling (25th place – 90), and Cameron’s Spencer Teel (25th place – 90).
Other scores included Cameron’s Kyler Hill at 97, Chillicothe’s Peyton Moritz at 98, and Cameron’s Tanner Slover at 103.
Liberty North and Liberty finished 1-2 in the Class 4, District 8 boy’s golf tournament in Kansas City. Liberty North shot 323 and Liberty 344. Sam Parrott of Liberty was medalist, shooting 71.
