The Trenton Bulldogs met the Grain Valley Eagles, Kirksville Tigers, and Chillicothe Hornets for two days (Friday-Saturday) of tennis competition at Kirksville High School, in the annual Kirksville Tennis Tournament.
Friday’s action was in doubles format, with the Bulldogs struggling to an 0-9 record against the three other schools. The team of Jacob Davis and Nick Shields lost to Campbell/Schnur of Grain Valley 10-3, Pultz/Hoshaw of Kirksville 10-love, and Nate McKiddy/Brandon Lamp of Chillicothe, 10-4.
The Bulldogs #2 doubles team of Bryce Whitney and Kade Ockenfels lost to Holland/Arnold of Grain Valley 10-7, Murphy/Hendler of Kirksville 10-4, and Lane Bonderer/Cody Evans of Chillicothe 10-8.
Trenton’s #3 doubles entry (Creed Houghton and Wyatt Neal) lost to Caley and Rogers of Grain Valley 10-2, Hamidi and Bartholomew of Kirksville 11-10, and Max Anderson and Colton Webb of Chillicothe 10-2.
On Saturday, the teams came back with singles play, with Trenton’s difficulties against Grain Valley and Kirksville continuing, with the Eagles and Tigers claiming 6-0 sweeps. Jacob Davis lost 10-5 (vs. Colton Campbell / Grain Valley) and 10-1 (Ruu Pultz / Kirksville), before a forfeit win against Chillicothe, as the Hornets only brought three singles players on Saturday.
Trenton’s Nick Shields lost 10-3 to Alex Schnurr of Grain Valley and 10-4 to Bennett Hoshaw of Kirksville, followed by a forfeit win vs. Chillicothe. Bryce Whitney of THS was dumped by Kellen Holland of Grain Valley 10-1 and Aidan Murphy of Kirksville 10-5, before a forfeit win against the rival Hornets.
Kade Ockenfels was 1-2, with a 10-1 loss opposite Addison Arnold of Grain Valley and a 10-4 defeat to Adam Alghalith of Kirksville. Ockenfels salvaged a win with a 10-5 effort against Chillicothe’s Dalton Rosenbach.
Creed Houghton of THS was a 10-2 loser to Ethan Caley of Grain Valley, then fell 10-3 to Reza Hamidi of Kirksville. Houghton finished his day with a 10-5 defeat to Chillicothe’s Nick Malloy.
Wyatt Neal of Trenton lost to Grain Valley’s Andrew Schmitt 10-2 and Alex Hendler of Kirksville 10-3, before a 10-8 triumph, in a spirited matchup, against Chillicothe’s Tyler Maasdam.
