The Trenton Bulldogs, with two minutes remaining in Tuesday night’s Grand River Conference game at Princeton, trailed the Tigers, in jeopardy of suffering an upset loss to a quickly improving PHS squad under first year coach Damon Collins.
Corbyn Guile’s driving lay-up gave Trenton the lead, and the Bulldogs added four more points late, in a 48-43 victory that gives THS a 5-3 overall record, and starts the “Black ‘n Gold” 1-0 in their first season in the GRC. Princeton, suffering yet another close, late loss in a 1-5 start, falls in their GRC opener, with Blaine Millburn playing strong for the “Blue ‘n White”, netting a game-high 23 points.
Guile fouled out in the final 15 seconds of regulation, committing the violation on a 3-point attempt, but Princeton missed all three free throws, down by four points at the time, dooming the Tigers to defeat. Guile led Trenton with 18 points, with Connor Cotton adding 13, and Spencer Harris 12 points. For Princeton, Calvin Berwanger had seven and Andrew Smith six points.
The Trenton girls cruised to their second victory in as many nights, moving to 7-1 overall, and 1-0 in the GRC, with a 52-22 road win at Princeton. Ainsley Tolson paced the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points, while Mykah Hurley had 11 points and eight steals. Salem Croy scored nine and Whitley Richman six points. Princeton, falling to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the GRC, picked up eight points from sophomore Jaelyn Thomas and seven from junior Vivian Allen.
