The Trenton Boxing Club traveled to Lawton, Oklahoma over the weekend for the 9th annual Madman Boxing Tournament. Trenton sent 3 members and returned all three with championships. All three fighters received a bye on Friday and qualified for the championship night on Saturday.
First up for Trenton was 8 year old Aryn Pajak fighting Trip Rivers from Spiro, Oklahoma for the 65 lb championship. Pajak got started a little slow the first round, feeling out his opponent but quickly adapted winning a split decision by utilizing a good jab and aggressive style.
Next up for Trenton was 14 year old Owen Brown fighting Diego Morales from Oklahoma City. Coach Dunkin says Brown’s very good level of conditioning paid great dividends in this bout as he was able to out punch Morales in the later rounds. Brown won a split decision and proved the better fighter with good clean, quick combinations.
Last up for Trenton was 12 year old 135 lb Faith Baker fighting Elissa Carillo of Dallas, Texas. From the very get go, Faith proved to be a little much for her opponent forcing her to the ropes and in the corner often, where Baker landed hard, quick combinations causing her opponent to constantly be on the retreat. Faith won a unanimous decision.
Coach Dunkin was very proud of all 3 fighters and very pleased with how they stepped up to bigger and better opposition then what we normally get locally. All fighters listened well and proved they can compete on a national level.
The club will next be in action May 12th and 13th in St.Louis as they compete in the Regional Junior Olympics. Winners of this tournament will go on to Charelston, West Virginia in June.
