The Trenton Blue Jays played two games at Hannibal, and hosted two games against Moberly, in a busy weekend of baseball action.
On Saturday, the ‘Jays opened the weekend with a 9-8 win at Hannibal, with Aaron Buford getting the win, pitching 6 2/3 innings, striking out 8 batters, allowed two earned runs and only four hits. Wyatt Thomas got the save, giving up one hit, but striking out two in a stressful final inning.
For the Trenton offense, Hadley Williams had three hits and 2 RBI’s, while Buford had a pair of hits and 4 RBI’s. Ty Figg and Derek Hussey each had two hits, with Figg driving in two runs.
In Saturday’s second game, the Blue Jays rolled past Hannibal by a final score of 10-4. Wyatt Thomas earned the win, twirling five innings, striking out five, allowing two earned runs and seven hits.
The Blue Jay bats struck for 13 hits, as Buford had three of the base knocks and a pair of RBI’s, while Trae Brownell had a triple as part of a two hits game. Bryce Long had a base hit and two RBI’s.
On Sunday, back at Burleigh Grimes Field, Trenton routed Moberly in Game #1, 11-1, as Brownell pitched six strong innings with eight strikeouts in a winning effort. Williams, Buford, and Brownell all had a pair of RBI’s.
The winning streak, and a chance at a perfect weekend, disappeared in Sunday’s second game, as Moberly beat Trenton, 10-5. Tristan Sewell took the loss for the Blue Jays, allowing six hits and seven earned runs over 2 1/3 innings of work.
Williams smacked a solo homer for Trenton, while Lane Widner had an RBI hit.
The Blue Jays are now 3-0 in district play, and 5-1 overall. Trenton will play in the Chillicothe Tournament this weekend, playing Chillicothe on Saturday morning at 9:30, Brookfield on Saturday at 12 noon, and the “Smithton Storm” on Sunday night at 5 o’clock, all at Shaffer Park in Chillicothe.
