Trenton advances Mason Hooyman, boys 4 by 100, girls 4 by 400 relays, to Class 3 state meet

The Trenton Bulldogs had three entries in Saturday’s Class 3, Section 4 track meet at Clinton High School advance through to this weekend’s state meet in Jefferson City, while three other entries came agonizingly close to moving on, finishing either 5th or 6th in their event.  Top FOUR finishers advance to state.

The Trenton girls, with 19 points, finished 16th in the team standings, while the Trenton boys 17 points matched the Bulldogs 17th place finish.  Versailles, with 81 points, won the girls team chase, with Chillicothe in 4th place with 62 1/2 points.  The Maryville boys, with 105 1/2 points, won Section 4.  Chillicothe was 3rd with 66 1/2 points and Cameron 12th with 25 points.

The Trenton boys will advance the 4 by 100 relay team to state, with senior Wyatt Whittle, sophomore Matthew Sibbit, sophomore Brian Ewing, and senior Austin Burkeybile putting up a time of 44.73 seconds, good for 3rd place.  Lamar was 4th, with Odessa 2nd and Hogan Prep winning the sectional title.  The THS Lady Bulldogs will send their 4 by 400 relay team to state, with senior Tenna Roberts, senior Shayla Woodside, freshman McKayla Blackburn, and freshman Lexi Whitaker running 4:13.31 on Saturday, good for 4th place.  Chillicothe was 6th, 2.15 seconds behind the Lady Bulldogs.  Versailles won the 4 by 400, followed by District 8 champion Lawson and third-place Odessa.  The Trenton girls (Roberts, Whitaker, Woodside, Hooyman) managed 6th place in the 4 by 200 relay, two slots short of a state berth.  The Chillicothe boys 4 by 400 relay team (Isaak Rasche, Jacob Anderson, Peyton Forck, and Brett Shaffer) won their event with a time of 3:28:38, 0.79 seconds ahead of runner-up Maryville.

Trenton senior Mason Hooyman is state-bound in the pole vault, with a best effort of 9 feet earning Hooyman fourth place.  Chillicothe’s Molly Jones was fifth.

Trenton senior Whitley Richman finished 5th in the long jump, with Whitney Clampitt of Chillicothe in second place.  THS senior Austin Burkeybile had a fifth-place finish, barely missing the cut in the long jump, with Burkeybile’s leap at 19 feet, 5 inches. In the boys pole vault, Joseph Zinkand of Cameron (13 feet) was the winner, with Bradley Mosier of Chillicothe in fifth place.

Chillicothe’s Whitney Clampitt was second in the triple jump, with Hornet junior Walker Graves finishing 5th in the discus.  Graves did advance in the shot put with a runner-up finish, while Trenton sophomore Jadan Whitney settled for fifth place.  Chillicothe senior Jalynn Reeter will represent the Lady Hornets in the javelin toss, finishing 4th in Clinton.  Walker Graves was 2nd in the javelin for his second sectional advancement, joined by Cameron’s Tristan Michaelis, in fourth place.  Chillicothe’s Bradley Mosier was fifth.

Chillicothe senior Jaime Albertson won both hurdles events, going 16.49 seconds in the 100 and 48.09 seconds in the 300.  Kylee Larson of the Lady Hornets was 4th in the 300 hurdles, earning a trip to state.  Brett Shaffer of the Chillicothe boys won the 110 hurdles (15.15 seconds) and was second (39.7 seconds) in the 300 hurdles, while Layne Worman of the Hornets was 5th in the 1600 meter run.  Whitley Richman of Trenton High School did not finish in the 100 hurdles, and was 7th in the 300 hurdles.

Cameron came close in the girls 400 and 800, but took a pair of fifth-place finishes, with Khayla Hollingsworth in the 400 and Hannah Robinson in the 800.  Cameron’s boys took a sectional title in the 800 meter run, with senior Ja’Quawn Jones putting up a winning time of 2:00.21.
