The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, behind the second career perfect game in the career of senior right-hander Ainsley Tolson, shutout visiting Polo on Thursday night, 4-0, with Trenton improving to 9-1 overall and remaining undefeated in GRC Eastern Division play. Tolson’s “perfecto” was nearly lost before it picked up momentum, as a liner to first base in the game’s opening moments deflected off the glove of Sidney Lynch. An alert play by freshman second baseman Chandler Lynch, who stayed with the deflection, resulted in the throw back to first base, throwing the runner out on a “bang-bang” call.
Tolson took control for the rest of the contest, retiring the Panthers 21 up and 21 down, striking out 11 batters. The Bulldogs defense was sparkling, with 10 putouts on 10 chances.
In the third inning, THS broke the scoreless tie, as Chandler Lynch singled and stole second, with Tolson driving her in. After Tolson swiped second, a Maci Moore single made the score 2-0.
In the fifth inning, Lynch walked and stole second, scoring on another Tolson RBI hit. A Salem Croy single, scoring Tolson, completed the scoring.
The Milan Lady Wildcats, with a two-game road swing approaching early next week (Monday at Princeton / KTTN and Tuesday at Trenton / KGOZ) picked up their first conference win of the season in thrilling fashion on Thursday night at Legion Field, outscoring South Harrison by a tally of 11-10. Maysville won on the Wolverines home turf, taking down Gallatin 8-2, while Princeton had a struggle of things against Putnam County, with the Lady Midgets cruising to a 14-1 win.
The Trenton JV entered the “winning zone” for the first time on Thursday night, defeating Polo 9-1. McKayla Blackburn pitched two innings for the Lady Bulldogs, retiring all six Polo batters she faced via strikeout. Jena Reeter pitched the final two innings for THS, giving up one run on only one hit, with three strikeouts.
Trenton scored twice in the first, four in the second, and added three runs in the third. Delaney Franklin was 2 for 2 with a triple and three RBI’s. Chloe Harris 1 for 1 with a walk and a run scored, while Teya Cooksey singled and scored for Trenton.
