Trenton closed their regular season at Chillicothe Monday night. The game was scoreless through two innings with both defenses coming up with big plays to get out of jams.
Trenton picked up two runs in the top of the third when Ainsley Tolson’s single to center scored Mykah Hurley and Jaylen Neff. Neff’s RBI single in the top of the fourth scored Hurley to make the score 3-0.
Chillicothe cut the score in the bottom of the 4th on a two run home run but Trenton’s second double play of the game got the Bulldogs out of a jam, with the Lady Hornets threatening to take the lead. After THS failed to capitalize on a bases loaded, one out opportunity in the visiting 5th, Trenton used instant offense to charge in the top of the 6th inning, as Tenna Roberts reached on an error and scored on Ainsley Tolson’s 2 run home run, her second of the season.
Tolson finished 2-3 with 4 RBI, Salem Croy and Taylor Richman were both 2-4 and Neff, Mason Hooyman, Hurley and Roberts each had 1 hit in the ten hit night. Tolson gave up two runs on 5 hits while striking out 10 Hornets to pick up her 18th win.
Coach John Cowling commented, “This was a great win for us heading into districts this week. Our energy was great, our defense played better. Ainsley had a big night for us at the plate and in the circle. “
The THS JV ended their season with a big win against the Chillicothe Hornets, 8-0.
Trenton went quietly in the first inning, and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom half of the frame. In the second inning, McKayla Blackburn got the offense moving with a one-out triple. The next batter, Mackenzie McAtee, singled Blackburn home to get the Bulldogs on the board. From that point on, it was all THS. The third inning saw Trenton score six runs. The big shot came after back to back singles by Kendall Crowley and Kennedy Norton and a perfect sacrifice bunt by Ashten Whitaker. Lexi Whitaker came up to the plate and hit an opposite-field three-run home run to push the Bulldog lead to 4-0. Later in the inning, after a Sidney Lynch walk and a Blackburn double, Sara Spencer doubled them both home to make it 6-0 Bulldogs. Immediately following her was Sarah Jordan with another single to score Spencer and extend the lead to 7-0. THS would tack on another run in the fifth and go on to win the contest 8-0.
Offensively, THS was led by Blackburn’s big night, where she went three-for-three with two triples and a double. Lexi Whitaker went two-for-three with a homerun and three RBIs.
