The Trenton Middle School Bulldogs took the lead on a 32 yard touchdown pass with 3:52 left in the fourth quarter, and held on for a 18-14 win over visiting Gallatin on Tuesday night, in football action at C.F. Russell Stadium.
Trenton opened the scoring on an 80 yard kickoff return by Quincy Griffin in the first quarter. For the first of three tries, Trenton failed to convert the two-point conversion.
Gallatin tied the score at 6 with 1:10 to go in the quarter, as Gage Wright scored from 38 yards. The two point conversion failed. A scoreless second quarter sent the teams to the locker room tied.
Trenton took the lead back at 12-6, with Kayden Spencer crossing the goal line on a 1 yard run. Just 1:24 later (3:36 remaining in the 3rd quarter), Brinley Vandiver and Johnny Stout connected on a 22 yard scoring strike for Gallatin, with GMS taking the lead on a Wright two-point run.
Trenton’s game winning scoring strike was a throw from Joey Lynch to Owen Brown. Trenton Middle School will next play at Putnam County, at 6 o’clock on Tuesday, September 13th.
