The Princeton Tigers, coming off a 46-39 loss on Tuesday night against Stanberry, made the same trek back to the Albany High School gymnasium on Wednesday night, but this time with a different result, beating Albany 61-43. The win, Princeton’s first of the season in three tries, advances the Tigers into Friday night’s (7:00) consolation final against the King City Wildkats.
Blaine Millburn led Princeton with 17 points, while Preston Thomas added 13, and Andrew Smith 10 points to the winning cause. The Warriors were paced by Kaeden Hutchinson and Tryce Floyd with 13 points each.
King City’s boys advanced into the consolation final with a 56-42 win over the South Harrison Bulldogs, as Collin Breckenridge and Wyatt Vannaman led a balanced Wildkat attack with 12 points each. Treyton Campbell had 12 points and Cody Weller 10 for the Bethany side.
In girls consolation play on Wednesday night from Albany, the host Lady Warriors beat South Harrison 45-29, as Gabby Newman led AHS with 17 points. Brooke Blanton had a team-high 10 for the Lady Bulldogs. Albany advances to the girl’s consolation final (Friday / 5:30 PM) to play the King City Lady Wildkats, who rebounded from Tuesday night’s loss to Princeton to wallop Pattonsburg, 61-18. Grace Schottel scored 23 points for the Lady ‘Kats, with Shae Gilbert adding 10.
The championship semifinals from Albany will be tonight (Thursday night), as the Jefferson girls and boys play in the first two contests, as the Lady Eagles duel with Worth County at 4:45, followed by the Jefferson boys against Pattonsburg at 6:15. The Princeton Lady Tigers will play for a spot in Saturday night’s 7 o’clock final, battling Stanberry in a 7:45 semifinal tonight, with the Worth County boys playing Stanberry in the boys semifinals at 9:15.
