The Trenton Bulldogs continue to move closer to the start of their first season of baseball, playing a pair of four-inning games at a jamboree event hosted by Chillicothe High School on Wednesday afternoon at Shaffer Park.
Playing against the Macon Tigers and Chillicothe Hornets, the fledgling Bulldog program struggled to throw strikes and keep their opponents off the board, giving up 17 runs over seven innings in falling 8-4 (vs. Macon) and 9-1 (vs. Chillicothe).
Four Trenton pitchers combined to walk 15 batters, while only giving up 8 hits. In both games, the Bulldogs fell behind early, giving up three runs to Macon and Chillicothe in both the 1st and 2nd innings.
Against Chillicothe, the THS hitters showed good patience, earning seven walks, but only gaining one hit, that coming off the bat of Colton Colston. Spencer Harris scored Trenton’s run, in the bottom of the 1st inning.
The Bulldogs offense was more lively against Macon, scoring once in the 2nd inning and three times in the 3rd. Colston, Cooksey, Harris, and Farmer scored for Trenton, with Harris and Hunter Dugan adding RBI’s.
Trenton will play its regular-season opener on Saturday, hosting the North Harrison Shamrocks in a doubleheader at Burleigh Grimes Field. The first game, at 11 o’clock, will be carried live on KTTN FM 92.3, with pregame at 10:45. Game 2 against the Shamrocks will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
