The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, one week out from opening the lid on the 2017-2018 basketball record, looked very sharp in a Monday night tune-up at Macon High School, participating in a four-team jamboree that included the Kirksville Lady Tigers, Macon Tigerettes, and Palmyra Lady Panthers.
The defending Grand River Conference champions played two quarters each against their opponents, and generally dominated play, beating Kirksville 28-10, Macon 21-10, and Palmyra 32-12.
Trenton is scheduled to open the regular season in Gower on Tuesday, November 21st, playing the KCI Conference’s East Buchanan Lady Bulldogs on Hot Country Z 101.7. There is a chance that game could be moved, with the East Buchanan football team still playing in the Class 1 playoffs, going to Monroe City on Saturday afternoon for the state semifinals.
The Trenton girls are coming off a 2016-2017 season that saw the Lady Bulldogs win a district title, in addition to playoff victories over Lawson and Kansas City Southeast, sending THS to the Show-Me Showdown, where losses to Whitfield and Lutheran North ended Trenton’s season in 4th place in Class 3. Goals are extremely high for a group that lost Whitley Richman to graduation, junior Taylor Richman to a softball leg injury, but returns nearly the remainder of its varsity roster from a year ago, in addition to getting junior standout Salem Croy back from a mid-season ankle injury that cut short her sophomore season in January.
