The Trenton Bulldogs have set high goals as the 2024 high school football season approaches, with the addition of Brookfield High School and Marceline High School adding noticeable punch to the Grand River Conference schedule for the next 2 1/2 months.
Head coach Kevin Hixson was excited about the potential of his team for this fall, with increased participation pushing opening day numbers to 43, with the potential of up to 46 players available by opening night on August 30th.
Hixson spoke to KTTN Sports Director Tom Johnson about the potential to see improved depth on the roster this fall:
After successful regular season runs, Trenton lost its postseason opener in 2022 to Lawson, and advanced into the semifinal round in 2023 before falling to Mid-Buchanan. Hixson acknowledged that the next step is reaching a district championship game, with the goal of winning that round to advance to Class 2’s “Final 8”:
The importance of increased level of play and maturation for the Bulldogs junior class, a group that has received positive reviews over the past two years:
Trenton will travel to Lathrop for a jamboree on Friday, August 23rd, joining North Platte and Polo in a four-team event with the host Mules. The season opener for the Bulldogs will be the Grand River Conference debut for the Brookfield Bulldogs, with kickoff at 7 o’clock on Friday, August 30th on KGOZ FM 101.7.
