The Trenton Lady Bulldogs will continue their efforts to return to the top of the Grand River Conference this fall, as practice for the 2022 softball season began on Monday morning at Mark Griffin Memorial Field.
Returning for their second seasons as coaches for the THS program are fellow Lady Bulldog alumna Madi Stillwell and Whitley Richman, with their immediate challenge of replacing the contributions of six graduated seniors from 2021. While experience may be low, especially early in the season, the talent level with the underclassmen pushing for varsity playing time seems to be increasing, presenting a mix for Coach Stillwell to work with in August, as 21 student-athletes look to continue the winning tradition of THS softball:
The Lady Bulldogs will be tested early, with the ultra-competitive Cameron Tournament held the weekend of August 26th and 27th, a GRC crossover battle at Albany on Monday, August 29th, and the following night, traditional power Putnam County opening conference play for THS:
The Eastern Division of the GRC again looks balanced and tough coming into 2022, with defending champion South Harrison returning an abundance of talent, Maysville remaining a program very capable of making a postseason run, Gallatin showing signs of a youth movement starting to turn into on-the-field success, Princeton having a strong run of young, deep talent in the program, Milan having a solid core despite the challenge of losing ace pitcher Cady Pauley, , while Polo’s program appears to be in the midst of a successful surge of talent, while Putnam County remains, until further notice, a very strong program always to be considered a GRC threat.
Trenton will play in a three-team jamboree at Brookfield High School, joined by Putnam County, on the morning of Saturday, August 20th. THS will play Brookfield at 9 AM and Putnam County at 10 AM, with four inning scrimmages planned. Admission will be free. Brookfield and Putnam County will play at 11 AM. Scrimmages would be cut short of four innings if an hour of elapsed time from first pitch is reached prior to four innings of play.
