The North Central Missouri College women are back in the win column, pulling away from a stubborn Southwestern Community College squad for a 79-65 triumph on Wednesday night, broadcast on KGOZ-TV.
North Central scored the first nine points of the contest, and never trailed, but the Lady Spartans had closed the lead to four points late in the third quarter, before a 13-0 surge gave the Lady Pirates breathing room, and with a solid fourth quarter, the road win.
Sarah Lamp was dominating in her best game yet as a Lady Pirate, with the Kirksville native scoring 24 points to go with 18 rebounds. Here is Head Coach Jenni Croy:
Kendey Eaton, the freshman guard out of Mound City, played sparingly in the first half, but dominated play in the third quarter, scoring 12 of her 14 points over that 10 minute span. Asia Young scored 10 points, 7 of those in the final quarter to help stave off any thoughts of a comeback by Southwestern. Freshman center Madison Gonseth, playing just a few miles west of her hometown of Murray, Iowa, added six off the bench for the now 2-2 Lady Pirates.
Southwestern, in falling to 1-2 on the season, was paced by 15 points from Eriyana Frazier, 12 from Maleika Carter, and 11 points for Julianie Carter. Southwestern and North Central will rematch on Tuesday night, November 15th at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton, with tip-off set for 5:30, again on KGOZ-TV.
Coach Croy noted how important the quick start was for her team, noting the struggles NCMC had with turnovers:
