For the second time this month, the Trenton and Chillicothe girl’s tennis teams locked horns in a close-fought duel, with Thursday’s battle in Chillicothe, after a 6-3 Bulldog win at THS just days prior.
As expected, the battle between the Bulldogs and Hornets came down to each point and each individual match, with Trenton claiming one of three doubles matches, but having the clear advantage in singles, winning four to six duels, to win the head-to-head competition by a score of 5-4.
With district play at Excelsior Springs looming just over a week away, Trenton got the key road win on the strength of two close singles wins, one from Mallory Sole (over Cami Carpenter) at #1 singles 8-5, and the other at #2 singles, with Astrid Soriano defeating Rylee Washburn 8-6. Other Trenton singles wins came from Alaina Overton, 8-1 over Leah Laurenco at #3 singles, and Lydia Leininger, with an 8-4 victory over Olivia Anderson at #4 singles.
Trenton’s #2 doubles team of Soriano and Leininger took a critical win for the Bulldogs team triumph, with a 9-7 result over Washburn and Garr of Chillicothe.
Chillicothe’s wins over Trenton came at #5 and #6 singles, with Audrey Snider downing Harley Hall 8-2, and Isabella Garr sweeping Jillian Voorhies 8-0. In doubles, the Hornets won the #1 match (Carpenter/Laurenco over Sole/Overton 8-5) and #3 match (Anderson/Snider over Hall/Voorhies 9-7).
