The Green City Gophers took control of Thursday afternoon’s baseball game at Burleigh Grimes Field with 3 runs in the 2nd inning, and four more in the 3rd, rolling to an 11-1 victory over the Trenton Bulldogs.
Leadoff hitter Devin Fields had three RBI’s, a run scored, and a key triple for the Gophers offense, while Hunter Chase, batting in the clean-up spot, went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Ryan Peavler started for Green City, tossing four innings of one-run (unearned) baseball, striking out nine batters while walking three batters.
Trenton’s pitchers struggled, with Hunter Dugan tossing the first two innings, giving up five hits and seven runs (three earned), with four walks and a strikeouts. Sam Schilling and Cole Schilling worked the final 2 1/3 innings for Trenton.
The Bulldogs, despite playing on their home field, hit in the top half of the innings. Field conditions moved the game, originally scheduled to be played in Green City, to Trenton’s facility.
The Bulldogs scored their only run in the top of the 4th inning, as Dugan scoring the run. Colton Colston, hitting in the leadoff spot for Trenton, reached base three times, all by base-on-balls. Trenton’s offense was no-hit by Green City in the five innings of competition.
