The Stanberry Lady Bulldogs improved to 12-1 overall, and a perfect 6-0 in the Grand River Conference’s western division, routing the Pattonsburg Lady Panthers on Monday night, 18-3. The win clinches the GRC West title for Stanberry, leaving an “all-Bulldog” battle to decide the GRC championship on Thursday night, when Stanberry hosts Trenton at 5:30 (coverage at 5:25 on KTTN FM 92.3). Combined with Trenton’s 17-0 mark, the two combatants in the title game will have a combined record of 29-1. Dennis Stephenson will have the play-by-play call from Stanberry (GRC western teams will host Thursday’s crossover games).
In the GRC eastern division on Monday night, Putnam County hammered Maysville 11-2, locking up the #2 seed on Thursday night for the Lady Midgets. Putnam rallied from an early 2-0 hole to score five runs in the third inning, adding six more runs over the final three innings in the road win. Gallatin, in the completion of a rain-suspended game from last week, won at Milan by a score of 5-3. Polo claimed a 4-0 win over South Harrison, as winning pitcher Shelby Copeland fired a three-hit shutout. Milaynie May pitched well in the loss for South Harrison, striking out nine and allowing only three hits. Six walks allowed by May were a factor in Polo scoring twice in the 2nd and 4th innings for the win, pushing Polo to 3-4 in GRC play. In the GRC West, Worth County won a pitchers duel at King City, with Haley Hunt firing a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 triumph for the Lady Tigers.
