The Southeastern Conference, on Tuesday afternoon, announced the complete cancellation of all sports competitions, effectively ending the 2019-2020 season for all 14 schools in the SEC, including the University of Missouri. Concerns over the continuing spread of coronavirus led to the quick and decisive decision from the conference office.
At Mizzou, all spring football games are cancelled, including the event on April 11th at Memorial Stadium with first-year head coach Eliah Drinkwitz. MU’s pro day set for Tuesday, March 17th, was also called off.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement, “This is a difficult day for all of us, and I am especially disappointed for our student-athletes. The health and well-being of our entire conference community is an ongoing priority for the SEC as we continue to monitor developments and information about the COVID-19 virus.”
At Missouri, the Tiger baseball team finishes the 2020 season at 11-5, winners of their last seven games. The softball team was off to a particularly strong start, at 19-7 overall and 3-0 in the SEC.
The next scheduled MU athletics event is the volleyball Black and Gold scrimmage in August.
