Daniel Salloi salvaged a tie for Sporting Kansas City in Wednesday night’s duel against the visiting Portland Timbers, scoring in second-half stoppage time for a 1-1 draw in the Major League Soccer match at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The goal for Salloi was his 12th of the season.
In three matches since July 1st, Sporting has grabbed only two of a possible six points, continuing a trend that has seen the Western Conference leaders play better away from home than on their familiar turf in KCK. The draw for Portland pushes the Timbers record to 7-9-3, but the late goal prevented the Timbers from grabbing what would have been their second road win of the season.
Portland opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Felipe Mora drilled a crossing pass into the goal behind Sporting goalkeeper Tim Melia, for Mora’s 7th goal of the season.
